A Better Way to Tie Your Shoes (Seriously!)

tennis-shoes-chapstick_300It sounds silly, but it’s true: You’re probably tying your shoes the wrong way. Your parents or kindergarten teacher most likely taught you the easiest version of the classic knot, and we’re willing to bet that you’ve been tying your shoes the same way ever since.

Enter Terry Moore, the director of the Radius Foundation, and this three-minute TED Talks speech. Moore quickly demonstrates an alternate way to tie your shoes for a stronger, longer-lasting knot. No more untied laces flying about! Watch the whole video here.

Can’t get the hang of the new knot? Try using lip balm to create your own version of waxed laces. Coat your shoelaces right where you loop for a knot that won’t slip out.

Who’da thunk it?!? But I just keep mine in a double-overhand knot (I assume that’s the right name. . . .) loose enough to fit in my foot and tight enough the shoe won’t fall off.
