How to Apply Foundation

rt-mineral-brush_300Confused about what exactly to use to apply your base? Powders are pretty straightforward: Use a powder brush. But here’s a good rule of thumb for wetter textures: For less viscous formulas (think: bb or cc creams or tinted moisturizers), take a hands-on approach. For thicker consistencies (say, heavy liquid or cream foundations), opt for a sponge, says Virginia Linzee, a New York City-based makeup artist for Mary Kay cosmetics.

Linzee adds that for the most seamless finish when working with any wet makeup, consider using both. “Start by dotting the makeup onto your face with your fingers, then blend it into all the nooks and crannies with a sponge.”

i feel so fancy that i already to this. dab it on with fingertips and wedge sponge it around for coverage. i have tried foundation brushes but i found that it applied the makeup too thickly.

are the beauty blenders really worth the hype?
