How to Make Simple Syrup

March 20, 2014 | By | Comments (0)

basil-lemonade_300For a tasty and impressive upgrade to lemonade, cocktails, and even cake, try mixing up your own simple syrup.

It couldn’t be easier to make: Just combine 1 cup water with 1 cup sugar in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring often, until the sugar has completely dissolved. It should only take three to five minutes. Store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Want to infuse your syrup with more flavor? Try adding lemon peels or rosemary sprigs to give your concoction an extra kick.

Now that you have your homemade syrup, put it to good use by stirring it into lemonade, adding a splash to gin cocktails, or brushing it over a warm cake.
