How to Make a Too-Big Ring Fit Your Finger

Have a beautiful ring you adore, but can’t wear because it’s too big? If you don’t want to pay to get the ring resized (or simply don’t have the time), follow these tricks from celebrity stylist Kimmy Erin:

• Cut a small piece of moleskin ($5, that is the width of the ring. (Hint: The longer it is, the tighter your ring will fit.) Adhere it to the inside of the ring.

• If your ring is only slightly too big, paint clear nail polish on the inside to adhere to your fingers—this also helps protect your skin if you are a bit allergic to the metal in the ring.

• Use a long, thin rip of masking or duct tape and wrap it around the ring. Find a tutorial here.

“Ring guards” are available that are longer lasting, less obvious, and fairly easy to install.

I used the rubber backing of an earring and cut through to the center hole and then placed it on the back of the ring and used super glue to close it up again.
