The holiday season typically means travelling, dry weather, and lots of eating and drinking—all which lead to bloating and indigestion. Fortunately, you can try a quick fix that you may already have on hand in, of all places, your liquor cabinet: Angostura Bitters ($12, amazon.com).
Jasmina Aganovic, an MIT-trained chemist and the CEO of Bona Clara, an all natural skincare and wellness company based in Boston, swears by drinking a teaspoon of the herbal bitters when she’s on-the-go. (Take note, however, that the bitters do contain almost 45 percent alcohol by volume.) You can either dilute the bitters in a glass of water, or drink it straight—whichever is easier for you. Bitters help to stimulate your tongue’s bitter receptors, which trigger the production of digestion enzymes.
