A Gift Idea for Groups

Real-Simple-Holiday-0139_300Have several members of a family on your holiday shopping list? Instead of buying individual presents for each person, consider getting the group one shareable gift.

Says New York City event planer David Tutera, “A Blu-ray player or an ice cream maker is a gift that everyone can enjoy together.” Likewise, you can pack up one big basket filled with accessories for an outing or activity—think a bunch of small gifts centered around a stay-at-home movie night.

I organized a group gift of an advent calendar wreath for my sons kindergarten teacher. Each student wrote a Christmas wish for their teacher and I put gift certificates in the other boxes! I attached it all the a green wreath. The parents loved that we were all able to contribute to a larger gift and that we can check something off our list before December 1!

I’ve gotten family memberships to local organizations, like Museums or Zoos, as a family gift. Particularly great for families with younger kids or a couples gift to somewhere like an Art Museum.
