An Easy Way to Boost Your Toner

april-2009-cover_300Toner isn’t for everyone, but if you have extremely oily skin, you’re probably reliant on the miracle worker—and adding a squeeze of lemon juice when you apply it will kick your skincare up a notch.

Jasmina Aganovic, an MIT-trained chemist and the CEO of Bona Clara, an all natural skincare and wellness company based in Boston, says that the enzyme-packed fruit helps brighten skin and works as a natural astringent that keeps pores small and clean. To apply, squeeze a slice on lemon onto your usual toner-spritzed cotton ball and gently dab as you normally would.

Just asking, would it be ok to just squeeze lemon juice into the toner bottle?

      Hi janemary,

Thank you for your question. Jasmina would not advise squeezing a whole lemon into your toner, because it will probably mess with the shelf life of the product. Squeezing it onto a toner-soaked cotton ball allows for your product to infuse with the citrus enzymes, but will not affect the toner formula itself in the long run.

      Hope that helps!
