Even though I use my makeup brushes every day (on my face, no less), I find the idea of cleaning them properly to be so daunting. Fortunately for me, many experts agree that a deep clean just once a month is fine—and you don’t need a fancy product to do it.

Ellen Marmur, a dermatologist in New York City, suggests the following: “Dip the brush in warm, soapy water—use shampoo or a mild bar soap. Rinse it, blot the brush with a clean towel, then use a blow-dryer to dry the bristles gently.” Be sure not to get the base of the bristles wet, as doing so can cause the glue to loosen. You can also skip blow-drying, lay the brush flat on a clean towel, and let the bristles air-dry.

Now that you’re starting with a clean slate, learn 18 ways to put on makeup better.

I’ve seen this tip before and bought a basic shampoo for the purpose. Does not work nearly as well as a gentle brush cleaner and is much harder to rinse out. FAIL.

Very useful indeed! Thank you for sharing! When cleaning make up brushes can be done this simply, it is easy for us to model and incorporate into our beauty routine.

Love your wisdom! Do you have any skin or makeup tips for those living with severe food allergies – as the skin is our largest organ and just as effected as the rest of the body in an allergic reaction or intolerance reaction. I write and manage my own blog focused on food allergies and promote awareness for the young adult and business professional. I would be happy to share your knowledge and tips with my readers.
