How Old Are Your Ears?

I was at my mom’s house the other day when a high-pitched noise coming from one of her lamps started bothering me. I asked her if she could somehow turn the buzzing off, and she looked at me like I had three heads—as it happens, because of our age difference, she couldn’t hear a thing.

Want to hear for yourself what it’s like to experience both sides of our situation? Check out this video (and be sure to set your video quality to 1080p and listen with headphones for the most accurate testing).

Did you “age out” at the correct frequency? I did. I started to feel a little bit bummed that I don’t somehow have impossibly young ears, until I realized that just means that there are probably dozens of annoying noises that my wise old ears are happily ignoring.

Looking to protect your ears (and sanity) from noise pollution? This guide can help.

I aged out at the second one, and I’m only 28. I’ve been having a lot of hearing difficulties in the past 2 years, and have to get an appointment to check them out. My co-workers recently commented how much worse I seem, and I’ve only been there for 5 months!
