You’ve probably heard the phrase “You’ll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar,” but if you’re trying to win an argument with a friend, coffee may be your best bet.

According to research published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, moderate doses of caffeine (the amount in two cups of coffee) can make people more likely to change their minds when presented with a persuasive argument. Turns out, caffeine may increase message processing, according to the research. And doesn’t a cup of joe sound a whole lot better than a screaming match?
