How to Save at the Dentist

If you’re trying to cram all those doctor’s appointments in before the kids head back to school, use this advice to save some dough on dental care.

For regular checkups, visit a dental school. Most schools have clinics that treat patients (under the supervision of a dentist) for about 50 percent less.

If you’re in need of a filling, consider getting silver-amalgam fillings in your back teeth. They’re half as expensive as white composites (stick with these on your front teeth), and can last up to four times longer, says Stephen Halem, a clinical researcher at the Forsyth Institute, an independent dental-research center in Boston.

Would never go with leaky amalgums! You need the advice of a dentist on this, not an independent researcher. Of course they are less money! They are cheap, inferior restorations that have long-term potentially dangerous effects and will stain your teeth and potentially leach toxins. Trust your professional dentist!
