If you have an outdoor shindig planned for this weekend or next, you’re no doubt wishing that all the mosquitoes in your vicinity would just bug off! Here’s how to make it happen (more or less).
1. A week before the party, empty any containers filled with standing water (that’s where mosquitoes breed). Dump the kiddie pool, check the rain gutters, and turn over the flower pots in case they’ve collected water.
2. Get some fans. Mosquitoes are weak flyers, so even a fan set on low will keep them off your deck. A tabletop fan on your buffet will stop from landing on the potato salad, too.
3. Hand out bug wipes. They won’t scent the air, and they work just as well as spray. Look for products that contain repellent picaridin instead of DEET.
4. Invest in a bug-repelling gadget. Check out our list of the best options on the market.
