There are few laundry nightmares that top shrinking your favorite blouse or sweater. Luckily, in some cases, four simple steps can remedy the situation and make your garment wearable again.
- Add 1 tablespoon of baby shampoo or hair conditioner to 1 quart of water, and then immerse a machine- or hand-washable article of clothing in the solution to relax the fibers (Note: Knitted items made of cotton, cashmere, or wool will be easier to manipulate).
- While the shrunken garment is soaking, trace an outline of a similar-sized piece of clothing onto parchment paper.
- Remove your clothing from the solution and gently squeeze excess liquid from it, then lay it on the paper.
- Stretch the garment to fit the traced outline and secure with heavy objects until dry.
