How To Fade Self Tanner—Fast

Too Much Self Tanner

Did you go a little overboard with the self-tanner? Or maybe you’re scared to try it because you think you’ll end up looking like an Oompa Loompa like the illustration above?  Either way, have no fear: It’s easy to fade self-tanner if and when you put on too much. Simply add three capfuls of baby oil to a warm bath and submerge your body for at least 20 minutes, then exfoliate with a loofah. This tactic can fade the color by about 80 percent. To lighten a few glaring streaks or spots, rub them with a cut lemon for 2–3 minutes. And to avoid blotches the next time, remember to exfoliate and apply a water-based moisturizer before you apply the tanner. Then put on one thin coat (not a drop more!), and blend thoroughly.

Still feeling timid? Start with a gradual self-tanner, like these four options, handpicked by Real Simple‘s beauty department.
