Do you have your colorist on speed dial, ready to pounce at the first hint of root growth? Here’s how to extend the time between color jobs (to a whopping eight weeks!) for the sake of your locks, and your wallet.
First, if you have hard water (you’ll know you do if it’s difficult to make soap or shampoo lather), buy a shower head filter to reduce the mineral content. Then make it a point to shampoo your hair less frequently, and when you do use shampoo, stick to a formula that’s color-safe or color-enhancing. Finally, invest in an at-home gloss or glaze (like Oscar Blandi at Home Salon Glaze) to help seal in color pigments. Once a week, apply it after shampooing and conditioning, leave it on for three minutes, then rinse it out.
