Stuck in a decorating rut? It’s not surprising. It’s too easy to get overwhelmed by the magnitude of 1) sticking with a style 2) knowing how furniture and accessories will fit together 3) picking out a paint color 4) finding someone to help you and 5) paying for it all.
Tastemaker.com launches today—and with it, the promise of affordable, personalized design help. Here’s how it works: Imagine that old game show Love Connection (minus the ’80s hair, of course). Once you fill out a fun questionnaire to describe your room challenges and design style (they make this fun with a visual quiz of sorts), they match you up with three potential designers that suit your style and your budget. Those designers then pitch ideas for your room, complete with virtual inspiration boards. You choose the winner and in two weeks receive a box filled will everything you need to make the concept a reality, from paint chips and floor plans to photos of specific furniture to buy.
Is it for you? If you’re looking for a DIY design middle ground, where you’re paying for expert design help but you finish the project yourself, then, yes it definitely is. Prices range from $400 to $1,950 depending on the caliber of the designer and scope of the project.
What do you think? Which room would you sign up first?
