No Panini Maker? No Problem!

Canned Goods as Sandwich Press

This is one from the Real Simple archives! If you don’t have a panini press, (they take up lots of counterspace), you can easily hack a sandwich press by using a heavy canned good and a small salad or dessert plate. You might not get those satisfying grill marks, but no doubt the hot, melty sandwich will more than make up for that.

Here are our favorite paninis and pressed sandwiches:

Tomato Soup With Roast Beef, Cheddar, and Horseradish Panini
Turkey and Pesto Panini
Prosciutto and Egg Panini
Salami Panini
Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwiches
Raspberry Panini
Chocolate and Banana Waffle Panini
Chocolate Panini

Great idea, the sandwich will look the same in the belly anyways!

I just turn mine over with a spatula and press down so the bread looks about the same on both sides. The only problem is sometimes the bread slides off and you have to rearrange your bread slices and/or filling while it’s on a hot pan. This happens less often when you have melty cheese keeping everything together though…
