Smart or Silly: A Standing Butter Knife

Standing Knife

I came across a post about the Standing Knife from the MoMA Store last week on TheKitchn. And while at first I thought that it was the coolest thing I’d seen in a while, I eventually came around to thinking that while it’s clever, it’s pretty unnecessary.

What I like about the knife: One of my go-to snacks is almond butter and apples. And having a knife covered in almond butter that I have to rest on something sitting next to my laptop is a recipe for disaster. This would solve that “where-do-I-rest-the-messy-knife-between-apple-slices?” problem.

What I find silly: C’mon, I can just rest the knife on my plate or across the almond butter container.

So tell me what you think? Great invention or just another thing to buy?  Then go look at our favorite problem-solving products on Pinterest.

I love this.I’m all about the mostly-unnecessary-but-super-handy kitchen tools. Also, I’m the type that is constantly knocking the knife off of the edge of the plate onto the floor or onto my socks, creating a huge mess, so this would be a great tool for me!

you could just use knife rests…google search them. I lived in Europe for a couple of years and bought some and love them. Besides not getting the almond butter everywhere, it keeps the knife clean off the counter or table.
