Can You Freeze Avocados? (YES!)
I love finding out that you can freeze things that you never would have thought you could put in the freezer. And I’m happy to add avocados to that list. Who knew?!
Thanks to this tip from theKitchn, I’ll never worry about buying more than one avocado at a time again because I know that as soon as they start to creep up on the ripe/too ripe border I can pop them in the freezer and use them whenever I want. The two recommended ways to do it: either peeled and quartered or mashed with just a little bit of lemon juice (to keep them from browning).

My store comes in a bunch of 5-6 in a bag, and to eat them all would be very fattening! I have small containers so i can “individually” freeze them too! Thanks for the tip!
Don’t they turn brown, especially when freezing them without lemon juice?
I think if we add few drops of lemon juice they won’t turn brown, same as you do when you make apple pie.
Lilianne, I haven’t tried this yet, but when I do, I’ll likely add some lemon juice just to be safe. My guess is that they would brown as they are thawing.
You can find them in the frozen food section of Trader Joe’s, but I haven’t tried them yet.

My sister-in-law buys them frequently from Trader Joes already frozen. They really come in handy for snack when you get unexpected company .
I know if you keep fresh avocado with their seeds it helps prevent browning, I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to try if that woul help too! I’ll be giving the freezing a shot- I’m also curious how they’d do whole and how long you need to let them defrost. Anyone know if all Trader Joes carries them? I haven’t ever seen frozen avocados there before!
