How to Organize Extra Buttons
Last week on Facebook, Lisa wrote in asking how she could organize all the extra buttons that come with her clothes. I have this same problem, or I did until I came up with this organizing solution.
I spent the last couple of days rounding up all of those extra button packets. (Can you tell what my favorite store is/where I used to work years ago?)
Then I labeled the ones I could easily identify. And set aside the ones where I knew I no longer had the garment.
Then I found a box that was just the right size to hold everything. The box I had originally had chocolate inside (I wish it still did!), but I’m guessing a check box from the bank would be just right, too.
Next, to make sure the spare buttons are easy to find in the future I made dividers out of notecards and washi tape. I decided to organize by garment type, but you could also organize by store or by color. Whatever makes most sense to you.
And here’s my organized spare button box:
As for the truly extra buttons where I no longer own the article of clothing they belong to, I’m going to take them out of their envelopes, and stash them in a jar in my craft supplies. If I haven’t used any of them by the time I do my next closet clean out, I’ll be donating them to my friend who does teen programming (lots of crafts!) at one of the local libraries.
Thanks for the question, Lisa! Anyone else have organizing challenges they need help with?

Great idea! I usually just put them in a special place hoping I will find them when I need them and will figure it out later. Thank you for sharing this idea.
Love the idea!, I have a lot of spare buttons and I keep them in a mini plastic drawer, but the still look kind of messy, but this is a great way to keep them all together and organized, luckily, I have a box just like the one Kristin use. Thanks!
