3 Moisturizing Rules for Winter Skin

Woman with a bare back

Secretly, I hate body lotion. I know it’s something I need to use daily, and I’ll admit that it does make my skin look ten times better, but I hate the time it takes each morning. But I’ve resolved to be better about it since I know my skin will thank me in 10+ years. Here’s some advice I’m keeping in mind this winter.

3 Rules for Moisturizing

1. Don’t wait until skin feels dry. Just like you shouldn’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink water, if your skin starts to feel parched, you’ve waited too long to slather on the lotion.

2. Give especially dry patches twice the love. When it’s cold and dry out, moisturize all over in the morning when you get out of the shower. Then before you head to bed, give your elbows, feet, and anything else that’s dry another round with a thicker body cream.

3. Pick the right formula. If your skin is really dry choose a rich body cream that comes in a tub instead of a body lotion in a tube or pump. You’ll likely switch back to a lighter formula as temperatures rise in the spring.

For dry skin on my face I use Apothederm http://apothederm.com/
They have an amazing moisturizing cleanser and moisturizing cream. They work better than anything else I’ve tried.
