How to Hand Wash Cashmere
Even though the tags might say dry clean only, hand washing your cashmere sweaters might actually be the better option—it will make them softer over time. Here’s how to do it to cut down on wear and to keep your sweater in tip top shape:
1. Wash in cold water with either baby shampoo or a gentle detergent like Woolite or The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo.
2. Press or spin (using a salad spinner or the Laundry Pod) out excess water. Don’t wring the sweater as that will stretch it out.
3. Let the sweater air dry FLAT. Be warned this will take at least a day. If for some reason you can’t dry your sweater flat, make sure you have a steamer on hand to steam out any creases or dimples.
