Should You Sell a Gift Card?

Didn’t know what to get your kid’s teacher? Your coworker? Your Secret Santa? Chances are, you bought someone a gift card. And while you probably thought you couldn’t go wrong with such an easy, crowd-pleasing gift, according to Yahoo! data, searches for “sell gift cards” are off the charts this week. So, does it make financial sense to sell unused gift cards?giftcards-illustration_300

Sites like Cardpool.com, GiftCardRescue.com, and PlasticJungle.com all offer you cash for your cards, but they will take a percentage of the card’s value. Bottom line: If you know you’re never going to use the card, it is better to get some compensation than to let it become part of the $2 billion in gift-card balances that go unused every year.

    I have used these sites and they are a good option. I also like http://www.morphcard.com because they let you exchange gift cards for other gift cards. Just another option.
