Didn’t know what to get your kid’s teacher? Your coworker? Your Secret Santa? Chances are, you bought someone a gift card. And while you probably thought you couldn’t go wrong with such an easy, crowd-pleasing gift, according to Yahoo! data, searches for “sell gift cards” are off the charts this week. Sites like Cardpool.com, GiftCardRescue.com, and PlasticJungle.com all offer you cash for your cards, but they will take a percentage of the card’s value. Bottom line: If you know you’re never going to use the card, it is better to get some compensation than to let it become part of the $2 billion in gift-card balances that go unused every year.
