‘Tis the season for giving. And ’tis the season for eating, too. So what’s better than to combine the two?

Shoparoo is a secure, free mobile app for Apple and Android smartphones and tablets that allows you to raise money for your child’s school simply while food shopping. All you have to do is buy groceries and take a photo of the receipt. That’s it. There’s no need to clip bar codes or mail-in your receipts.

The more you buy, the larger your donation is. Then, in August 2013, your designated school will receive a check. (For information on who donates the money, click here.)

And while you’re at the supermarket, follow these tips to reduce your grocery bill.

We’re donating $1 for every Facebook share, Facebook like, and Tweet (up to $1,000) on the posts tagged charity from November 15th on. The donations will go to Donor’s Choose projects that have been started to help classrooms affected by the storm.
