Would You Try an At-Home Gel Manicure?

Who wouldn’t want a manicure that lasts up to 14 days without chipping? It’s no wonder that salon gel manicures have continued to gain popularity in the past year. But even though they last longer, all of those trips to the salon can get expensive.

Thankfully, several companies have come out with at-home gel manicure sets, complete with the UV light. Our editors have tried out the ones from SensationailRed Carpet Manicure, and Sally Hansen. (Watch: How to Manicure Your Nails.)

A few tips before you try out an at-home gel system:

  • Read the directions through fully before starting. (You don’t want to have to handle the paper once you’ve started painting.)
  • Resist the urge to touch the polish between coats. Yes, the UV light does set it, but you’ll want to make sure the next coat goes on correctly.
  • If the system you choose requires special removal products, buy them when you purchase the initial kit. You don’t want to have to make a last-minute trip to the drugstore when you want to switch colors—or end up picking the polish off like I did. Bad idea!

So tell us, would you try an at-home gel manicure, or are you sticking to your normal polish? Don’t forget to update your nail care routine for the colder temperatures.
