Walk a Mile in Somebody’s Shoes

Specifically, try Ecco’s. The company, which got its start in Denmark and has been around for more than 40 years now, just launched a new line called Sculptured 65, an approachably fashionable collection of bliss-inducing heels (yes—heels!).

They measure up to your favorite stilettos at 65mm, which is just under 3 inches, but what’s truly amazing about these shoes is that you could actually walk a mile in them, and do it in comfort. An ergonomic footbed keeps your foot in a natural-feeling position instead of at a painful angle, while the sole (here’s the really genius part) is made of “direct-injected, one-component PU.” This is a technical way of saying that—unlike most high heels, which are essentially glued together and usually have a metal rod running through the heel (ouch)—the soles of Ecco’s Sculptured 65 collection are one solid piece of shock-absorbing rubbery material, so you feel like you’re walking on a cloud.

I put a patent leather version of the Lace Bootie to the test for a week. Even after I’d walked miles of city blocks and done an all-day-on-my-feet stint at a trade show, they still felt as comfortable as my favorite flats.
