Erin here, associate producer for RealSimple.com. In addition to producing all of our online food content, I also make daily updates to our Facebook and Twitter accounts. I am thrilled to be back leading the book club for the second time. Nonfiction lovers may remember me from April of last year, when we read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Much as I enjoyed that experience, I can’t wait to tackle some fiction this time. The Light Between Oceans has been flying off the bookshelves—and tearing up our book poll—for the last few weeks, so I hope that you’re as ready as I am to dig in.
The novel is divided into three parts, so here is what I propose for our reading schedule:
For September 7: Part 1 (beginning through page 81)
For September 14: Part 2 (page 82 through page 214)
For September 21: Part 3 (page 215 through the end)
I’m vacationing in Montreal over the long weekend, and I plan to spend any downtime I have buried nose-deep in this novel. I can’t read in the car, though, so I won’t be able to get a jump-start during the seven-hour drive. My boyfriend and I are going to try listening to a book on tape to pass the time. We just downloaded Tina Fey’s Bossypants, which neither of us has read yet but which was warmly received right here by the No-Obligation Book Club. My question to you is: Have you ever listened to a book on tape? Do you have any book suggestions for us to download before we go? Seven hours is a really, really long drive, after all.
Have a safe, happy, and healthy Labor Day weekend! Until next time.
