According to the U.S. Census Bureau the average daily commute for Americans is a whopping 25 minutes, 6 seconds. (If you live in New York or Maryland, your commute is even worse clocking in at 31.4 minutes and 31.3 minutes, respectively.)

To make your daily trek a bit easier to deal with avoid leaving your house between 7 a.m. and 7:29 a.m., as that’s when most people nationwide hit the road. And consider finding ways to distract yourself from the busy roads like listening to an audiobook. Most libraries allow you to download audiobooks to put on your MP3 player or phone. Try limiting your listening time to your commute only so you have a reason to look forward to it. Might we suggest trying Gone Girl, or one of the selections from our upcoming No-Obligation Book Club?
