How I Spend My Day: the Dream vs. the Reality

Do you ever get to the end of the day and ask yourself, “OK, where did that one go?”  I feel like I do frequently, and not just when I’m particularly sleep deprived or overwhelmed by meetings and emails and dog hair.  It’s more that the array of things we have to accomplish on any given Wednesday is just so vast.  And so frequently…boring.  Yes, boring!  Unless you think picking up after other people is exciting. Me—not so much.

But the next time you ask yourself where your day went, just remember that the genius team is one step ahead of you.  Don’t believe me?  Just check this out:

That, my friends, is what my typical day looks like.  A bit nice (plenty of smiling and a decent amount of sleep), a bit scary (far too much time looking for lost stuff).  Here is what I wish my day looked like:

Kristin van Ogtrop, The Dream Day

Too much time drinking and sleeping, you say?  Maybe.  But that’s why this is a fantasy day.

Whether you have time on your hands or just want to see where the time went, I urge you to follow our friendly instructions and make your own typical day pie chart asap.  If only to make yourself feel better about the last 24 hours.  And if your typical day pie chart actually makes you feel worse—well, that’s why you can make a fantasy day one, too.

And while we’re on the topic of time:  I’m thrilled to announce our second annual Simply Stated Blogger Contest. So, friends, your assignment: Make a pie chart.  Make 10 if you like.  And if you’re really inspired, blog about your schedule and what you’ve had to give up to make it work.
