During this time of year, in addition to setting big resolutions for the coming months, I like to focus on a few mini-resolutions to finish before the end of December. It’s nice to start the month of January feeling like I’ve already accomplished a few tasks that will help to make the new year more organized and decluttered.
- First up on the list is laundry, laundry, laundry. I like to have all of the laundry in the house clean. This includes all dry cleaning, bed and kitchen linens, and, obviously, clothing. It’s nice to wake up in a new year with nothing lingering in a dirty clothes hamper.
- Next up is cleaning out the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. Don’t bring rotten or expired food into the new year. Get out all the goop and make room for the healthful, nutritious, and delicious food you plan to eat in 2012.
- All new items put away. If you celebrated Hanukkah or Christmas, you may have a few new items in your home. Be sure to find a place for these new items to live so that they’re not constantly out of place and cluttering up your space. If you received a gift you don’t plan to keep, now is also a good time to donate these items to charity or give them to someone who will treasure them.
- Finally, I like to clean out the car. A good amount of mud, slush, and sand manages to find its way into the car during December. A good cleaning always makes you feel like your car goes a little bit faster — and it’s nice to start the year with a car that feels like it has some zoom!
