Greetings, Real Simple readers!
I’m so happy to introduce myself to you as the newest addition to Real Simple’s fashion team and the Simply Stated blog.
I’ve actually been here behind the scenes for about a month now, learning the ropes of the office, and working on upcoming issues of the magazine—you’ll start seeing my work in our February issue.
And now that I’m all settled, I’m at your fashionable disposal! Six straight years as a stylist and fashion editor, working with everyone from celebrities on magazine cover shoots to the girl next door to help get her closet edited and organized, have taught me which designers and brands make the very best of whatever you’re looking for, which rules to live by and rules to break, and tips and tricks to take the guess work out of getting dressed, and how to make the most of your wardrobe. So tell me your style queries, conundrums, questions, and woes—I’m here to help!
To start with, I thought I’d post about something I’ve been hearing both around the office and outside of it, from coworkers and friends alike—the annual quandary of the holiday season: With so many festive events, office parties, and family gatherings, how do you get through it all without exhausting either your wardrobe, your wallet, or both?
I have one simple and sneaky solution for you… layering! Cardigans and vests are the easiest way to update an ensemble. A spangled sweater can take a ho-hum office dress straight from desk duty to a festive fête or transform a dress you’ve already worn into a skirt no one knows they’ve seen before. And a fur vest (faux, of course!) or even a bit of fur trim can add just the right touch of dressiness to any outfit, even if it’s just jeans and a tee. The best part? These pieces will keep you nice and warm, all through December’s festivities and on into the new year.
