If you’re trying to improve your complexion (and, really, who isn’t?) pay attention to these three things you might not have thought about before:
1. Your water quality: Determining if you have hard or soft water can help you choose your facial cleanser. For hard water, use a gentle nonsoap formula, and for soft water, you can use any kind of cleanser, but just use it sparingly.
2. Your toothpaste: Whitening or flavored toothpaste can cause redness or spots around your mouth. If you experience that reaction, switch to a plain white paste instead.
3. Your hair products: Even if you’re careful not to get your styling products on your skin, they can run down your face when you sweat or transfer to your pillowcase at night. Choose water-based products which are less likely to clog your pores.
