The Top Trends to Shop for This Fall
There are tons of trends out there that can either make or break your fall wardrobe. Here, I’ve picked eight great ones to home in on as you peruse the racks this season, with tips on how to wear them (so they don’t wear you).
Trend #1: Leather

What to look for: A classic black leather jacket in a bomber or motorcycle design. The bonus: This is a piece you can actually wear season after season.
Trend #2: Burgundy

What to look for: Incorporate hints of this hue into your closet by trying pieces that are subtle but wearable, like a pair of patent leather burgundy pumps.
Trend #3: Longer Lengths

What to look for: Unless they’ve been blessed with an extra-tall figure, longer lengths can make most women (myself included) look, well, frumpy. Avoid this by considering below-the-knee skirts that have defined higher waists. This creates an ultrafeminine hourglass shape—and no frump whatsoever.
Trend #4: Fur

What to look for: Although a lot of the fur I saw on the runways was real, I encourage you to channel your inner pet-loving self and opt for something faux. (Not to mention it’s way more affordable.) Go for a faux fur vest or collar as your new go-with-anything accent piece.
Trend #5: Polka Dots

What to look for: A patterned scarf or top—or even a bag—works, but keep the colors completely tonal. If you want to be a little more daring, try black burnout polka-dotted tights to liven up neutral pieces like black dresses and pencil skirts.
Trend # 6: Tie-Neck Blouses

What to look for: Basic colors, like cream or black, give this ladylike trend much more staying power.
Trend # 7: Lace

What to look for: All-over lace tops, skirts, or dresses are totally swoon-worthy. But if you’re hesitant to go that far, try a blouse or skirt with just a bit of lace accents.
Trend #8: Bold Gold Jewelry

What to look for: A chunky gold-tone cuff brings a ton of sophistication to the table. Plus, wearing just the one piece makes you look completely accessorized, day or night.
If you need to stock up on the basics start with the essentials of a well-balanced wardrobe.
