Day Planner To-Do List

Happy Monday! Here’s to starting off the week by being productive, and ultimately making more time for yourself.

Follow these four steps to eliminate distractions and start crossing things off your to-do list:

At work

1. Shut your door. Yes, it’s simple, but if you have work to get done, make it clear that you don’t want to be disturbed.

2. Check e-mail only two times per day. Try to limit your e-mail checking to noon and 4 p.m. That’s when you’re most likely to have responses from e-mails you sent earlier in the day.

At home

3. Hide your smartphone. When you need to get things done around the house, limit the pull of e-mail, facebook, and Angry Birds by putting your smartphone away until the task at hand is done.

4. Watch only the TV shows you love. Once your favorite show is over, turn off the set. Avoid channel surfing, as studies have found that TV doesn’t make people nearly as happy as activities that are more engaging like taking a walk or having dinner with your family.
