Pre-Made Salad that Won’t Get Soggy

For a dinner party (or even just a regular weeknight meal), making the salad ahead of time can save you precious minutes, but it normally results in soggy lettuce that no one wants to eat.

Thankfully, all you have to do to is layer your salad ingredients properly, and then give a quick toss before serving. Here’s the order you should use:

How To Layer a Salad

1. Pour the dressing in the bottom of the bowl.

2. Add sturdy wilt-resistant vegetables on top of that (cut up bell peppers, carrots, radishes, and cucumbers are examples).

3. Layer on the lettuce or other greens on top.

4. Cover with a damp paper towel and keep in the fridge.

Then to serve, add any last-minute additions (like croutons), give the salad a toss to distribute the dressing, and you’re ready to serve.
