Don’t let the prices of over-the-counter drugs get you down. By doing a little bit of smart shopping you can cut down the amount of money you spend on those medicine cabinet must-haves.
1. Choose store brand over name brand. Just check to make sure the active ingredients are comparable.
2. Shop online when you’re restocking. If you prefer to buy name brand, check sites like amazon.com or cvs.com, which will often have sales you won’t find in their brick and mortar stores.
3. Avoid shopping for medications at the supermarket. Because they devote less space to it, they have fewer options and likely buy their inventory from smaller distributors meaning you can see a price increase of up to 10 percent. The same is true for delis and convenience stores.
