A Raw, Vegan Feast

I had a memorable meal last week.  I was invited to a (mostly) raw, vegan dinner party. I was wary of what I had gotten myself into and considered I might have to get a pork taco for dessert on the way home. But as soon as we arrived I was seduced.

We walked in along a candlelit path to a pagoda surrounded by water and started nibbling on avocados stuffed with marinated broccoli and cauliflower. Wine, fresh mint tea, and homemade ginger beer were poured as we sat cross-legged on cushions at a low table. Then the feast began:  squash soup with blackberries and guava puree, quinoa (the only cooked part of the meal) with green beans and bok choy, a pad thai with fresh coconut meat and an almond butter sauce, greens with 2 dressings, chocolate mousse cake, and my favorite part: the raw-mond Joy bar.

Sounds pretty decadent, right? Who knew a raw food feast could leave one so full? The food was healthy and delicious, the setting was dreamy and beautiful, and the company was warm, fun and friendly.  I forgot all about the pork taco I was considering as I rolled myself into bed that night (but I’m still dreaming of the raw-mond joy).

What’s the most memorable meal you’ve had lately? Points if it was raw and/or vegan!
