I rarely (if ever) think about how well my clothing is protecting my skin against the sun. I figure if it’s covered–it’s protected. But sadly that’s not the case. Harmful UVA rays can find their way right through lightweight clothing and cause damage, including pre-mature aging (aka wrinkles). Yikes!
So, for all the healthy-skin and anti-wrinkle fans out there, I happily present to you–Mott 50.
UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) clothing has been around for a little while now, but I haven’t seen a collection as stylish as this one. Mott 50 is first and foremost dedicated to making sure that each garment has a UPF level of 50 (note: the average t-shirt has a UPF of 5)– but also that you don’t look like a walking tarp.
It’s not about completely covering every inch of your body. Rather, it’s about getting the right amount of protection of what you are covering…combined with the use of sunscreen for all your exposed areas (and even under your clothes as well…and looking amazing while doing it!
The clothes, which are approved by the Skin Cancer Foundation, can be a tad pricey ($55 for a t-shirt and $145 for a dress). But– fashion, function and anti-aging benefits don’t always come cheap.
Although, it’s awesome that Mott 50 donates a portion of their proceeds to cancer research. We love that!
What do you think of the collection? Do you think companies should dedicate more thought to UPF clothing?
