So far this summer has been pretty mild in New York City. Yes, there were a couple of days that were absolute scorchers, but other than that I really can’t complain. Especially since I still don’t have an air conditioner. Last summer, my roommate and I tried using our air conditioners in the shared spaces of our apartment. (I wrote about my a/c strategy here.)
But this summer, we’re moving our air conditioners into our bedrooms, but this presents a problem for me, since my only window is also the fire escape. So I’m looking at installing a portable or windowless air conditioner instead of the traditional window unit.
Here’s an example:
As you can see with this Kenwood Portable Room Air Conditioner, the term windowless air conditioner is a bit of a misnomer. No, you don’t put the unit in the window, but it does still need to be close to the window so you can vent out the hot air.
I still have yet to do my research on which model to buy. I especially need to look up how many BTUs it should have. I can go on the smaller side because my space is small, which will hopefully help me save energy and money.
Have you ever used a windowless air conditioner? Did you love it or hate it?
