You Voted, Now Share Your Best Basil Recipes!


And the winner is…basil!

Thank you to all of you who voted yesterday! Basil was a definite favorite in the poll, but all four ingredients had a solid fan base.

Now that we have our ingredient, here are a few tips from our A to Z Ingredient Guide to get you started on creating your first 3-ingredient recipe:

  • Basil is most common in Italian and Asian recipes.
  • Sweet basil is most common, but other varieties include opal, Thai, lemon, and cinnamon.
  • If you buy basil with the roots still attached, store it in a glass of water outside of the refrigerator. For basil without roots, store wrapped in a damp paper towel in a plastic or mesh bag in the refrigerator.
  • Basil only needs to be lightly rinsed before using since it bruises easily.

And finally for the fun part! You can submit your 3-ingredient recipe that includes basil between now and Thursday at 11:59 P.M. EST. Either leave it in the comments on this post, or tweet it to @RealSimpleFood with the hash tag #3ingredients. Keep in mind that oil (like olive or canola for example), butter, salt, and pepper don’t count against your ingredients. So feel free to add those in if your recipe calls for it.
