From Cleopatra to Marilyn Monroe, powerful and influential women have been painting their lips red for thousands of years, according to the book, Read My Lips: A Cultural History of Lipstick.
Red will always be classic and romantic. It reappears every season in new shades, finishes, and textures. But what if you just don't like crimson colors or think it may be too bold for you? Try red's edgy sister shade: saturated pink. It's just as eye-catching, but a bit more flirty and fun. Plus, with striking shade on your lips, you can keep the rest of your makeup minimal.

My version using Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Super (a perky, neon-like pink), a sweep of Shiseido Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil in Black, and Julie Hewett Rose-Scented Mascara in Black.
So what do you think? Is pink the new red?

i like your version better. the model’s lip is too matte for me. i have been gravitation more toward pink than red, as well.
Yes! I love pink as the new red. As a girl with rosy undertones, pink tends to look better on me. In fact I’ve been rocking the Nars Funny Face lipstick which was featured in the fall J.Crew catalog. It’s so bright and fun.
I always wear bright pink lipstick when I am looking to show-off! I think I’m way too pale for red, but pink looks nice. I must have a zillion of them in stick, gloss, and stain forms. It makes me feel happy.
