Recently, as I waited for my lunch order and fiddled with my iPhone, I was asked what I was doing. A bit embarrassed, I responded "playing Zombie Farm."
The look on the store owner's face was priceless.
While it may look like I'm busy doing something semi-important, looks can be deceiving, because most of the time I'm probably playing a game. And judging from the number of free and low cost games available through the iTunes store, I'm guessing I'm not alone. Here are some of my current favorites:
Angry Birds – There is something so wrong, and really enjoyable, about flinging small birds at objects with the goal of destroying little green piggies. This game has been #1 paid app in the iTunes store throughout the summer. (99¢ with free lite version available). See the "trailer" below.
Moron Test – Don't let the name fool you, attention to detail is important in this game/intelligence test. (Touch the sun, not the son). (99¢)
Zombieville USA – Want to work out some aggression? Grab your shotgun and start shooting zombies! ($1.99 with a free lite version available)
Zombie Farm – Zombies in movies are icky, but zombies in video games are adorable! In this variation on the farming-theme you sow crops of onions, tomatoes or brain-eating zombies. I didn't say it made sense, I just said it was fun. (Free, but they constantly try to upsell you on brains and other equipment)
Fragger – More flinging! This time it's small bombs with the goal of knocking out the enemy. Gets a little difficult when you need to get the grenades around large objects and sharp corners. (99¢ with a free lite version available).
Solitaire – An oldie but goodie. This free app works both on my iPhone and iPad, but looks better on the latter because of the bigger screen. (Free, but forces you to view ads between shuffles).
Do you play games on your mobile device (Android, iPhone, Blackberry, whatever)? What are your favorites?

My two year old son plays around with Angry Birds, I happen to like PuzzleQuest which is a cross between Bejeweled and a role-playing game. Other recommendations:
Bejeweled 2 – with support for Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook is good but definitely better on iPad than iPhone/iPod.
Dragon’s Lair and Space Ace – for those of us who remember the cartoon/LaserDisc arcade games.
Frotz – for those of us, even older, who remember text based Zork with fondness
One of my absolute favorites is PacMan Championship Edition. I originally played it on XBox Live, and it translated to iPad quite well. It will definately put fingerprints on your screen
I wish I had a phone with apps.
If you haven’t tried Talking Tom yet you don’t know what you’re missing! It’s free & you can pet him so he purrs, give him milk to drink etc. He will repeat what you say in a chipmunk voice. As my DS figured out you can hit him in the head, stomach or foot and listen to him groan. You can even knock him out if you hit him enough times. It’s a riot!
Also like StarGuide. Point it at the sky & watch the constellations light up with outlines of the constellation itself. Makes for a fun summer night activity. This one’s free too.
My favorites are: Words with Friends (which you can connect to your facebook account and invite friends to play that way, Monkey Flight (lite version available), Froggy Jump (my kids kill me on this one constantly), Bewjewled (also can connect to fb), Gin Rummy (free), Nerts (solitaire on crack!), and iAssociate. Love my games!!
OMG! I spent my entire summer vacation playing TapFish, TapBirds, and TapFarm. I recently also got hooked on Zombie Farm (brains!), and Tap Ranch.
I’m ashamed to also add that I had to force myself to plant longer growing crops so I wouldn’t kill the crops while I’m at school teaching all day. It was either that or play during class changes!
Sigh.
My favorite is Word Mole for Blackberry. It’s a fun game, but makes me use all of my vocabulary too!

I am TOTALLY addicted to Angry Birds! Drive my boyfriend nuts!
