Joel Henriques is an artist in Portland, Oregon who creates many different things from mobiles to bunting to paintings and beyond. This guy is so talented — and I love his YouTube videos that share his work up close and personal, some videos even show him making it — so inspiring! In addition to his art, Joel is currently working on his first book for Shambhala Publications / Trumpeter Books.
Joel has a great blog, Made By Joel, too. I like how openly he shares his passion — you can tell that he really loves his work and is very supportive of other creatives around him, too. I appreciate how he makes a lot of cool stuff for his kids and after creating something, he shows a photo of his children playing with it. It's very approachable but also quite heart warming. There's nothing better than to get to know an artist through their blog, it makes their work so much more valuable and interesting in my eyes.
What do you think? Are you drawn more towards artists who blogs vs. those who do not?

Thank you for sharing. I didn’t know Joel’s blog and it has just been added to my favourite list.
Showing his children palying with what he creates, makes the blog look “more real”
I loved it!
I think that artists who blog are closer to “reality” and get much more feedback about their work than artist who only showcase in galleries/museums. Art should reach a majority not only an elite.
These are amazing! I LOVE the brown one with the vase of flowers.

I love his work! It’s very clean and simple! I am an artist/illustrator/designer and recently completed and illustration series – Bellena Bell and the Birds. The birds are whimsical, anthropomorphic and bursting with personality. Please take a look: http://www.artisagoodthing.com/artwork
Really nice art and a wonderful blog. As an artist in the process of creating a blog, I hope people find artists’ blogs interesting and insightful. I’m certainly inspired by Joel’s work and really enjoyed reading his blog. Thanks for telling us about him!
Beautiful! His birds are wonderful!
