While it will come as little surprise to most women, a new study from the U.K. confirms what many already know: Women are more likely to be awakened by the sound of a baby crying than men.
The top three things that awaken a woman from sleep are:
1. Baby crying
2. Dripping tap
3. Rowdiness outside
The MEN, however, were most disturbed by these three things going bump in the night:
1. Car alarm
2. Howling wind
3. Buzzing fly
Interesting…in fact, the sound of a baby crying wasn't even ON the top 10 list of things that awaken men. (Although crickets chirping ranked number 6! Seems like small creatures are really big sleep disturbers for men…)
So, what wakes you up the most?

I wake up a lot to check the clock. The closer it gets to when I have to be up, the more frequently I’ll wake up – sometimes up to 6 times a night. I always have my alarm set, but I guess since I have to be up before it gets light outside I have this fear of not hearing it (there have been a few times where I swear the alarm didn’t go off and I woke up at the time I should have been walking out the door). I also wake up if I’m cold or uncovered, or if my husband is getting up to use the bathroom. I always fall back to sleep right away, but I’d rather sleep uninterrupted. On the weekends when I don’t have to be anywhere in the morning, I sleep much better and hardly wake up at all. Imagine that!
It doesn’t surprise me at all that men don’t wake up to babies crying. When my baby cries, my husband wakes up to a stiff elbow in the ribs.
