Hadley Hutton is an artist that I've been writing about for quite awhile now over on decor8 because I love her eye, composition, color, subjects — all of it. Her work is primarily encaustic painting, encaustic is another way of saying hot wax painting which is a process involving beeswax (usually) and it is heated and applied to a collage or painting, the wax sometimes has colored pigments added depending on the look that the artist is going for.
A San Francisco Art Institute grad, Hutton is an illustrator and artist full-time in Portland, Oregon. A nature lover, her art is an exploration of the natural world and its influence on people as well as people's influence on their environment. Hutton describes her aesthetic as inspired by, "Asian patterns and motifs, Victorian die cuts, and geometric designs."
On her site, you can find prints and originals of her work. I own two originals (one shown in the photo above on my credenza) and visitors always remark of their beauty and often ask for information about the artist. If you are interested in Hutton's work, or if you're a long time fan like me, you will be happy to know that for a few days only (starting now), you can take 20% off of your order in her online shop. Simply use coupon code: BF2009 and place your order by Monday, December 1, 2009.
Enjoy and happy Black Friday! I hope you find some great deals!
