You may not want to spend a ton on a seasonal bag, but the ubiquitous cheap canvas tote isn’t an option for the office. We found four that work with summer’s lighter colors and fabrics, all under $200.
Carrying your laptop to work? We found some stylish laptop bags, too.
Under $200
J. Crew’s Leather Gallery Satchel ($199.99, was $298) is as versatile as you’d want a work bag to be: neutral tan goes with everything, and you can convert it into a cross-body if you’re carrying too much stuff. A candy-colored patent leather tote ($198 at Macy’s) in a simple shape also works for summer: it’s cheerier than black or brown, but the silhouette is still business-like.
Under $100
Even though this shoulder bag ($68 at Urban Outfitters) is made of canvas, the structure and faux-leather piping make it acceptable for work. We also like this faux-suede tote ($68 at Swell) for its generous size and cute buckle detailing.

I like that bag from UO.
Is it hard to suggest something that is under the $50 price range?
Cute bags and totes!
Mocha, check stores like Century 21 and Filenes’ Basement [www.filenesbasement.com] for bags under $50.
THANK YOU for putting moderately priced bags in this post. I was reading an article in Martha Stewart Living (I think it was their May issue) about work handbags, and they were ALL high-end brands like Burberry, Hermes, and Lambertson Truex. There was nothing under $500. It was ridiculous. Thank God I’d picked it up off the newstand b/c if I was a subscriber, that article would have caused me to cancel my subscription.
where’s the under $50 selections??
