The dreary weather here today narrowed down my footwear choices significantly: usually, there are boots or rain boots (or “ok, I’ll wear sandals and they'll get a little ruined”), but thanks to a fateful rainy day last month, I now own rain flats.

There are several revelatory things about these shoes. First, they are less expensive than other shoes made by the same designer. My flats ($39 at Nine West) were an impulse purchase on a rainy day when I had unwisely worn painful heels. They were the checkout-counter chewing gum of shoes – something new to play with, zero guilt.

Second, they’re plastic. So while they’re not terribly comfortable when your feet are wet, they definitely won’t get ruined in the rain.

On top of this, and unlike wellies, they’re feminine and summer-appropriate.

Do you own a pair of similar plastic-y flats?

  1. Nope. I’ve been tempted to buy them, but if they’re not comfortable, I’m going to pass, even though I like the look and idea of them.

They might be cute but totally useless if they are uncomfortable.

Yup, I just bought a new Croc flat design (“Olivia”). Super comfortable, actually. http://shop.crocs.com/pc-2163-4-olivia.aspx?navcategories=3,136

  4. To clarify – the shoes are incredibly comfortable to walk in and wear (super flexible, as you might imagine). They don’t absorb moisture like leather or cloth, so you can feel it on your feet if any rain gets in. That said, I still love ‘em.

  5. I recently purchase these in yellow ( u can see in my previous posts blog)! its cute, but then i thought it would be comfy for long walks but then blisters and pain that leaves marks behind…it hurts! does it apply to u 2?and since its plastic d friction against skin makes more blisters on toes. sigh… think its because they don’t line the edge of the shoes which are sharp, thus when walking… hahaha
