Pearls are inherently pretty (at least I thinks so), so I’m glad to see them incorporated into more jewelry than just the traditional necklace – these are modern and striking. J. Crew has lately been doing a great job of updating pearls by adding new materials, like the fabric and crystals in the necklaces below.
The one on the left ($55 at J. Crew) is gorgeously simple, with just a modest section of glass pearls flanked by sort grey ribbon on either side – perfect (but not prissy) with a cashmere sweater. The Pearl-cluster necklace ($125 at J. Crew) is fancier, though I’d love to wear it with a plain white tee and beat-up jeans, too.
Farther out on either end of the price spectrum are this vintage (real) pearl, rhinestone and ribbon necklace ($238 at Anthropologie) – brilliantly edgy and sweet all at once – and Forever 21’s chain-and-[faux]-pearl necklace ($9).
Which one is your favorite – or are you sticking with grandma’s heirloom strand?

I love pearls, but I really love unique types of pearls, like coin or potato pearls the best. These are really different. http://www.jcdjewelry.com is my choice of pearls, she is a wonderful designer out of California.
You have written an excellent blog that has convinced me to read this! Excellent Job!
