I’m almost embarrassed by how much happiness I’ve gained from a very minor project on my part.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been making a concerted effort to use up the big piles of coins we’ve stashed in various corners around our apartment. Each morning, I leave with a backpack that weighs an extra three pounds in quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.
It’s a bit ridiculous how satisfying I find it to see the piles shrinking, and to count out $2.50 in coins to buy a large coffee. As Samuel Johnson observed, “It is by studying little things that we attain the great art of having as little misery, and as much happiness as possible.”
Have you found any little things, or little projects, that have boosted your happiness?
The days are long, but the years are short.
