A makeup bag full of seemingly unrelated pots and palettes can seem intimidating, not exciting, if you’re not sure how to apply them.
Which is why we’ve been so enthusiastic about the step-by-step kits we found – especially the ones that focus on hard-to-master eye makeup application.
Avon’s Eye Artist Eyeshadow Trio ($6 at Avon) makes it as easy as paint by numbers: it palette actually looks like an eye, with stripes of shadow laid out in the way you’re supposed to apply them. Easy, and inexpensive.
Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Shadow Quad ($10 at Drugstore.com) is similar, with written instructions and an applicator included, making it easy to throw in a carry-on for a weekend away.
